Well, here I am sitting in a hotel room in Seattle on Sunday night, November 4th; the week of the PASS Global Summit. This is my favorite week of the year in the SQL Server community. If you’ve arrived ahead of the conference and have some time, please reach out so we can connect about BI, reporting, architectural design or life in general. My twitter tag is @paul_turley.
Yesterday was a whirlwind for me and the others in Portland where we had about 300 people attending SQL Saturday 174. There were several great sessions. Thank you to all of the organizers and volunteers who made that great event happen and run so smoothly! Buck Woody’s lunchtime keynote “The Cloud is Coming for Your Career” was marvelous. We were able to catch several SQL Server know-it-alls, well-known community leaders and evangelists on their way to the PASS summit to speak at pour event and we sincerely appreciate them contributing their time and talents.
In preparation for the summit, Brent Ozar and Kendra Little posted an informative video blog about their favorite and least favorite moments at the PASS summits over the years. They offer useful information about how to get the most our of the summit for first-timers and pros – like Kilt Thursday and the Women In Technology luncheon.
My first summit was 2004 in Orlando followed by the Denver summit in 2006. I’ve attended and spoke at every summit since that first one. In Orlando, one of the speakers and a fellow BI consultant was jet-lagged from a business trip from Europe and asked me to join him and take over his session at the last minute. I’ve been speaking on SQL Server BI ever since.
This conference will commemorate SolidQ’s tenth anniversary and the largest presence from the company in one gathering.
